Intrastat – obligations and declaration

Intrastat is a statistical system in the European Union that serves to collect data on trade in goods between EU countries. In Poland, some companies engaged in intra-community trade have the obligation to submit Intrastat declarations.

If your company buys or sells goods within the EU, this obligation may apply to you. The system allows monitoring the flow of goods and creating trade statistics.

What is Intrastat?

Intrastat is a system collecting data on the flow of goods between European Union countries.

• value and type of goods
• product code (CN)
• tax identification number of the contractor
• country of dispatch or destination
• weight
• mode of transport

These data are used for analysis and trade statistics in the EU.

Who must submit a declaration?

The obligation applies to companies that trade goods within the EU and exceed the specified thresholds for:

• arrivals (purchases from the EU)
• dispatches (sales to the EU)

Once these thresholds are exceeded, declarations must be submitted monthly.

Intrastat thresholds

Thresholds are set each year. Exceeding them means an obligation to report data in the Intrastat system. Therefore, companies should regularly check the current limits.
